            The Boddingtons Village Cricket League season started this week on very nice evening, with last years           Champions Preston Grasshoppers entertaining the runners-up from 2007. Batting first Fulwood & Broughton scored                  98 –6 in their 15 overs, with Adam Cooper top scoring with 25 Rt, the pick of the Hoppers bowling attack were, C Berry         2 for 13 and C McIntyre 2 for 9. In reply Hoppers had a steady start, but then lost several wickets, but with M Lough holding   end up they got nearer their target, but going into last over they still required 17, then Mick Lough had to retire with 30,    and was replaced by Mark Rigbye with 3 balls remaining from which he scored 10 runs to win the game for Hoppers, for Fulwood Adam Cooper took 3 for 16.

            Barton Grange visited Guy’s Thatched Hamlet and scored 115, with Peter Topping again leading the way retiring    with 25, supported by B Stuart 25 Rt and M Laking 27 Rt. They then bowled Guy’s out for 67, with Mick Walker 30 Rt scoring nearly half the runs, the early damage was done by Ian Topping taking 3 for17.

            At Whittingham the home side got away to a winning start by beating Chipping by 4 wickets with an over to spare. The visitors innings was built around J Mainwareing 25 Rt, in reply Mohammed Munavvar give his side quick start with 25 Rt, then Zaheer Ahmed finished the game off with 22 not out.

            In the other two games Longridge beat Owd Nells at home, and Ribchester won, playing their game at Grimsargh.

            In the second week of the Boddingtons Village Cricket League season there were second wins for Barton Grange       and Preston Grasshoppers.

            Preston Grasshoppers had a convincing win at Owd Nells, Hoppers made a good start with Cameron Berry retiring       on 25 supported by Ricky Sands, at the end of their overs they had reached 102, they then bowled the home side out for      54 with Craig Steel 3 for 14 and J Peterson 3 for 4, doing the damage.

            Barton Grange beat Longridge by 6 wkts with 2 overs to spare. Longridge’s openers gave them a good start Steve Proctor made 25 Rt and D Young 22 but the were restricted to 79 after their 15 overs, then in reply Peter Topping again  retired on 25 with the main support coming from Mike O’Malley 22 not out.

            Fulwood won their first home game of the season bowling visitors Ribchester out for 96 with I B Hussain top       scoring with 28 Rt, Adam Cooper and Gavin Clinch taking three wickets each. In reply Fulwood lost three wickets before     Pete Geldard 25 Rt, and Adam Cooper 24 not out saw them pass their target, winning the final over.

            Grimsargh had a home win against Whittingham, in the visitors total of 98, 5 batsmen reached double figures          but they were out, with Steve Bell taking 3 for 7. Replying the home side lost three early wickets before Steve Bell and      Matt Banks both retired on reaching 25, to put their team on the winning path, which they reached with one ball to spare,

            This week in the Boddingtons Village Cricket League, Preston Grasshoppers lost to Ribchester and Barton Grange    made it three wins out of three.

            Hoppers batting first scored 92 with M Pallas top scoring with 25 Rt, in reply Ribchester made a good start with      Chris Boyle retiring on 28 and Imran Hussain out for 24, then it was left to Mark Jones 19* to get them passed their target         in the 17th over.

            Barton Grange’s win against Owd Nells puts them at the top of the table after three games, Owd Nells reached          90 from their 20 overs, A Rawlinson 25 Rt leading the way. In reply Barton Grange started well, Peter Topping 27 again    retired, and they reached their target in the 18th over.

             Fulwood had a comfortable win at Whittingham scoring 124 with three batsmen retiring on reaching 25; they         then bowled the home side out for 59, A Hall 3 for 11 and T Hughes 3 for 9 doing the damage.

            Chipping had their first win of the season at Longridge winning by 15 runs, in their 106, two batsmen retired              J Kenyon and M Watkinson, they then restricted the home side to 91. In the other game Guy’s had a home win against Grimsargh.

            In the fourth week of the Boddingtons Village Cricket League, there was a first win for Owd Nells against      Ribchester, thanks to an innings of 27 Rt by G Jennings, in a 7th wicket partnership with C Gent 18, after M Chaudry              had taken 5 for 20 for the visitors. The Ribchester score was built around C Boyle‘s 25 and M Jones’s 26 both retired.

            At Chipping the home side ended Barton Grange’s unbeaten run when they bowled them out for 88 in 16              overs and then reached their target in 14 overs. For Chipping; J Kenyon took 3 for 9 and P McEvoy 3 for 19, and the            top scorer was M Watkinson retiring on 26.

            Fulwood beat Guy’s at home, passing their visitors total of 125 with 2 overs to spare, top scorer was                         M Whalley 25 Rt, for Fulwood A Hall and A Cooper both took 3 wickets. In reply Fulwood lost a quick wicket but                      P Nelson and A Cooper both retired on passing 25.

            Preston Grasshoppers beat Whittingham by 4 wickets, with C Berry scoring 27 Rt and taking 1 for 12 from                 his 4 overs.

            Grimsargh had a comfortable win against Longridge bowling their visitors out for 78 and then knocking off                the runs in the 11th over.

            In the Boddingtons Village Cricket League this week, in some close games, Fulwood beat  Longridge by                       4 runs, Grimsargh won against Barton Grange by 1 run, and Hoppers won at Guy’s by 14 runs.

            Grimsargh batting first scored 128 for 6 with Steve Bell top scoring with 26 retired, they then bowled                 Barton Grange out for 127 with 3 balls to spare, the Barton Grange’s middle order nearly won the game for them                with runs coming from, M O’Malley 25 Rt and Mike Halewood 24.

            At Longridge the home side just fell 4 runs short of their target against visitors Fulwood, for whom K Wilkinson,          S Bapuji and P Nelson all retired on passing 25, in reply Ted Keighley and Dave Young also retired for the home side.

            At Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, visitors Preston Grasshoppers reached the highest score of the evening, 141-9 with        runs coming from M Pallas 25, Tom Moore 26, and Cameron Berry 26, in reply Guy’s got away to a good start with                    H Smallwood and Mike Whalley both reaching 25, but a middle order collapse put them behind the require run rate and       they ended 14 runs short.

            At Whittingham the home side had an easy win against Ribchester, passing their visitors score of 82 in the                 12th over, with openers M Munavvar 28 and H Basker 27 both retiring.

            In the Boddingtons Village Cricket League 4 games were played in damp conditions, in most cases by                 reducing the overs.

Fulwood lost to Barton Grange by one run, so Preston Grasshoppers take over top spot in the table after                beating Longridge.

At Fulwood, the visitors Barton Grange batting first reached 119 from their 15 overs, after been given a good            start by M O’Malley and J Vinden both retiring on 25, supported lower down the order by Mick Richardson who also          scored 25. In reply the home side also started well with Pete Nelson 29 retired and then S Bapuji retiring on 25, but           they just failed to reach their target.

Whittingham won at Owd Nells in the highest scoring game of the evening but they played 20 overs, for the          visitors M Munavvar and H Basker both reached 25, and in a good reply three of the first four batsmen Harry Robinson,            A Rolandson and R Salthouse scored 25 or more, but they could not keep up the required run rate and fell short by 18 runs.

Chipping won at Grimsargh 103 to 89, with the runs coming from A Davies 25 and M Watkinson 27 for Chipping,         and  for the home side A Riddick 28 was top scorer. S Bell Grimsargh and A Waring Chipping both took 3 wickets.

In Preston Grasshoppers win at Longridge, Mark Rigbye was the star man taking 1 for 5 then top scoring with 25.            A Howard took 3 wickets for Longridge.

            After this weeks games in the Boddingtons Village Cricket League with Barton Grange beating                             Preston Grasshoppers and Fulwood & Broughton winning at Chipping we have a three way tie at the top of the table.

            It the local derby at Lightfoot Green, Barton Grange passed their winning target of 109 with one ball to spare.      Preston Grasshoppers got away to a good start with Wayne Steele and Mark Rigby both retiring on reaching 25, but then      after a mid innings collapse they reached 108 at the end of their overs. In reply Peter Topping gave the home side a         good start retiring on 28 then lower down the order 26 from Mike Halewood put them on their way, but it was down           too batsmen 9 and 10 to score the winning runs.

            At Guy’s Thatched Hamlet the home side came close to passing their visitors total of 96 just falling 3 runs short      after requiring 15 from the last two overs.

            Fulwood visiting Chipping scored 148 with Pete Nelson 30 and Adam Cooper 25 both retiring and 24 not out from        T Hughes, replying the home side were making good progress with Michael Blair 30 and P McAvoy 25 but then the innings       fell apart and they were all for 128.

            Grimsargh beat Owd Nells at home passing their visitors total of 91 in the 13th over.

In a high scoring game at Fulwood in the Boddingtons Village Cricket League this week, visitors Grimsargh were bowled out for 151 with four batsmen scoring 22 or more and Adam Cooper taking 3 for 22. In reply five of the home side’s batsmen passed 21 in their winning total of 152 reached in the 19th over.

            In the local derby at Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, Owd Nells scored 126 with J Robinson 26 Rt,

R Salthouse 28 Rt and D Kennedy 25 Rt being the main run scorers, P Wood took 3 for 20 for Guy’s. Replying Guy’s were given a good start, then Mike Whalley 25 and Mark Sutcliffe 26 both retired, and the winning run came off the last ball of the game, A Robinson taking 4 for 20.

            Hoppers won at home against Chipping with an over to spare. Whittingham lost to Longridge at home and Barton Grange beat Ribchester, so there is still a threeway tie at the top of the Table.

            In the top of the Table clash in the Boddingtons Village Cricket League this week Preston Grasshoppers                  beat Fulwood & Broughton, and with Barton Grange winning against Guy’s Thatched Hamlet we now have joint leaders.

            In Hoppers score of 178, eight batsmen reached double figures with 3 passing the retirement mark Craig Steele,      Matt Pallas and Mick Lough. In reply Fulwood were never up with the run rate required to reached such a large target          and were all out in the last over, 30 runs short with Kevin Wilkinson 25 and Adam Cooper 30 being the top scorers, and      Craig McIntyre taking 3 for 26.

            In a close game at Lightfoot Green, Barton Grange passed Guy’s Thatched Hamlet’s score of 107 with 2 balls to     spare, thanks to 25 from Peter Topping and 28 from Mark O’Malley, for Guy’s the main run scorers were P Reeves 30,           Phil Wood 25 and Mike Whalley 25.

            In the other games Whittingham won at Chipping, Grimsargh beat Ribchester, and Longridge won against              Owd Nells

            The joint leaders of the Boddingtons Village Cricket League both won this week, but third placed                     Fulwood lost and with Whittingham winning at home against Grimsargh they join Fulwood in third place, and                       play each other next week.

            After the heavy rain just before the start of the games on Wednesday evening, it slowed the outfields                    out and it meant that the bowlers were handicapped with a wet ball, so two games were reduced to 15 overs per side.      One at Whittingham where Grimsargh scored 96, which the home side passed in the thirteen over, the other at Guy’s      where the home side also won in the thirteen over against Chipping who reached 106 with Phil Deakin’s 25 top score.           In reply James Hawkes, Phil Reeves and Mark Sutcliffe all reached 25 or more in their winning total of 109.

            In the highest scoring game of the week Fulwood set Ribchester a total of 153 to win, which they reached            with the loss of 6 wickets with an over and half to spare.

            In two top teams were in low scoring games, Barton Grange won at Longridge and Preston Grasshoppers beat         Owd Nells at Lightfoot Green.

In the Boddingtons Village Cricket League this week the top two teams increased their lead at the head                         of the table, with Barton Grange having a convincing win against Chipping and Preston Grasshoppers having a lucky             win at Whittingham.

At Lightfoot Green, Barton Grange bowled Chipping out for 70 with Phil Deakin 21 top scoring, and Mike Halewood         4 for 13 and S Perruzza 3 for 4 doing the damage. In reply J Halliwell 26 and following his bowling performance Mike     Halewood 26 both retiring, and they completed the win in the 14th over. At Whittinham the home side bowled Hoppers         out for 86, and in reply when Zaheer Ahmed retired with 26 and Mohammed Munavva with 26 they required a further 27         to win with 7 wickets in hand, but all the batsmen found a way to get and they were all out for 84 so giving Hoppers a         win.

Guy’s won at home against Fulwood bowling their visitors out for 88, S Bapjui top scored with 25 Rt, and then         thanks to P Reeves 23 and Malcolm Eckton 29 Rt they reached their target in the 19th over.

Longridge beat Grimsargh by 7 wkts in the 17th over, thanks to S Proctor 26 Rt and D Young 28 Rt. Owd Nells             beat Ribchester by 19 runs.

            In the Boddingtons Village Cricket League both joint top teams lost this week, so their lead has been                       cut to 6 points with 4 games to go.

            Grimsargh beat Barton Grange at home, passing their visitors total of 101 in the 18th over. Main run scorers;       Steven Bell 28 and Steve Fletcher 24 for Grimsargh and C Nix 23 for Barton Grange, and Phil Brook took 3 for 14 for             the home side.

Guy’s Thatched Hamlet beat Preston Grasshoppers by 20 runs, after scoring 111 with P Reeves top scoring                with 26 Rt, and late quick 24 not out from Mark Sutcliffe. In reply Hoppers made quick start but then the innings fell         apart, and only a late 20 from Mark Rigbye got the score up to 91, Malcolm Eckton took 4 for 8 for Guy’s.

             Whittingham beat Ribchester by 25 runs, with Zaheer Ahmed and Mike Thompson retiring with 26 each                   for Whittingham, then two Hussains I M and I B retired with 25 each in Ribchester innings of 107.

            Fulwood won at home beating Longridge, passing their visitors total of 97 in the 11th over.

Owd Nells won for 2nd week on the trot this time beating Chipping by 4 wkts.

            With two top teams winning again, next week’s game at Lightfoot Green between the two of them could                 be very crucial as regards the outcome of the League winners.

            Preston Grasshoppers won at Longridge by 34 runs, batting first Craig Steel, Cameron Berry and Bob Bailey                all retired in their total of 126, in reply Longridge started well but after the openers Ted Keighley and Steve Proctor         were out the innings fell apart and they were all out for 92 with Craig McIntyre and John Chesworth taking 3 wkts each.

             Barton Grange gained revenge on Fulwood from the previous night’s Cup defeat winning in the 19th over.           Thanks to Adam Cooper’s 25 Rt Fulwood reached 104, with Ian Topping taking the first 4 wkts for 16, replying all the           first four Barton Grange batsmen reached double figures, with M O’Malley 25 and S Amjad 26 leading the way.

            Whittingham won at home against Owd Nells in a low scoring game to go third, and Ribchester won at Guy’s.

            The Challenge Cup Finals of 2007 and 2008 were played during the last week. Grimsargh beat Guy’s Thatched       Hamlet at the fourth attempt due to wet weather on previous dates in the 2007 Final in a 40 over game last Sunday,             and on Tuesday Evening Fulwood beat Barton Grange by 5 runs in a close game in the 2008 Cup Final played at Guy’s     Thatched Hamlet in a different format.
